CHAREST REPORTING: COVID RESPONSE
A message from Spencer Charest
We would like to thank those counsel who have supported us during this difficult time and continue to book our remote services, including Zoom, Webex, and Microsoft Teams, to conduct discoveries, hearings, mediations and arbitrations.
We have been conducting virtual proceedings for over ten years and have gained extensive experience in successfully managing various platforms. We will continue to use these platforms to meet client demand while investigating and implementing new options as they become available.
We are now entering a phase of "in-person" attendance and have some guidelines in place for the safe use of our premises.
First you must review our health checklist before you attend. If you can answer "no" to the following questions you are cleared to be present in our offices
- Have you been in close or casual contact with a confirmed or presumptive case of COVID-19?
- Are you ill (cough, sore throat, headache, muscle aches, fatigue, runny nose, and joint aches, and may also include nausea, diarrhea and stomach pains)?
- Do you have a fever?
- Do you have difficulty breathing - respiratory issues?
- Have you been around anyone who has had ALL of the above symptoms?
- Have you or anyone in your immediate household travelled outside of Canada in the last 14 days?
- Have you or anyone in your immediate household been around/visited individuals who have travelled outside of Canada in the last 14 days?
Our building requires a mask to be worn when entering the lobby and the elevator.
Although it is not mandatory, we suggest that people wear masks while in our office.
Plastic dividers are not in use in our office, as the use of recycled air in office buildings makes shields less effective than masks.
We offer hybrid meetings, where some people may attend in person and some by phone or videoconference. This type of proceeding allows those who are not comfortable being in a room with others, whether because of underlying health conditions or other reasons, to attend by phone or by videoconference.
In compliance with suggested safety protocols, at this time we are not providing beverage or catering service. Handling of food items by others greatly diminishes the effectiveness of social distancing. We do look forward to providing you with our delicious catering and beverage services as restrictions lift.
We have the largest court reporting offices in Western Canada with spacious boardrooms throughout. We can accommodate discoveries, mediations and arbitrations while meeting social distancing requirements. We have designed our 4th floor, which is opening the end of June, to be even more open and spacious than our 16th floor. Not only are the boardrooms generous, but the hallways are also extra wide to comfortably accommodate ease of movement when accessing our boardrooms.
We ask that ONLY examining counsel and defending counsel and a single client for each attend. This assists in reducing the number of people in our office to more easily meet social distancing requirements. Please let us know how many people will be attending an in-office proceeding so we can ensure you get an appropriately sized room.
We look forward to seeing you in our new office space and hope you all stay safe and productive during these challenging times.
